Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the Prichard Committee?
The Prichard Committee is a citizen-led, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to the belief that access to an excellent education is the key to economic prosperity for all Kentuckians. Founded in 1983, the Committee now consists of up to 150 members from across the Commonwealth who are supported by a small staff and a Groundswell of other Kentuckians who share that belief and are committed to continuing the progress that has been made in the last four decades.
- Why does the Prichard Committee need my support?
The Prichard Committee relies completely on charitable gifts and grants to fulfill our mission. While we strive to secure grants from corporations and foundations, we have always relied on gifts from individuals who care deeply about education and share our belief that moving Kentucky from the bottom of the nation to the top of the nation in measures of educational attainment is a goal worthy of support.
- Can I direct my gift for a specific purpose?
You can! While we value unrestricted gifts that can be directed to the areas of most urgent need, we do offer donors the opportunity to direct gifts to specific programmatic areas of our work and to direct gifts to our endowment. We strongly encourage you to discuss potential designations of gifts with our staff to ensure that we can fulfill your intentions.
- How will my gift be recognized?
Any gift made through your estate plans, regardless of the size or the type of gift, is recognized by membership in the Robert F. and Pamela Sexton Society, which is named for our first executive director and one of our founding members, who also made the first bequest to the Prichard Committee.
- Can I create income with my gift?
Yes! You might wish to consider a charitable trust that can provide lifetime income before distributing assets to the Prichard Committee.
- What asset should I use to make a gift?
While cash or checks are always an easy option, you may wish to consider gifts of appreciated stock, a Qualified Charitable Distribution or QCD from an IRA (if you meet age requirements) or other options that offer other advantages.
